K12learningweb2.0 course has been an amazing experience for me. By doing this course I have come to know many interesting and useful websites like pageflakes, delicious and Google docs. For example I used google docs to create and share collaborative documents. Had it not been for this course I would not have come to know about these websites. I can use delicious to share interesting and useful articles with my students. From these course I came to know how the internet can be used for k12learning which otherwise would not have been possible. Hitherto I was thinking social network sites are only for fun and socializing now I can say that they can also be used as an effective tool to share one’s knowledge, experience about students and teaching. With so much information and resources available over internet k12learningweb2.0 is only the beginning and we hope to see many such courses in the future.
Unlike other social networking sites like twitter.com and facebook.com classroom2.0 is a social networking site mainly for the educators. Classroom2.0 is a good networking site for the teachers in that they can share their classroom experiences and problems with other teachers. It can be used as a good resource to share what works and what don’t work in the classroom. The feedback given by the students about the lesson helps me to prepare my lesson differently based on the feedback and level of students understanding and to make it more interesting I can use technology so that students can actively participate in the class and always engaged in my activities.
http://twitter.com Nowadays, communication tools like Twitter have allowed teachers to converse, exchange best practices, and even make friends with people around the globe. For next year I am thinking of using twitter.com as a tool in my teaching. My plan is to tell the students to open an account on twitter.com and send any feedback about the lesson or they can send any questions they have about the lesson they learned in the class room. Previously we have used only the traditional way of teaching. But now a day we often see more advance way of teaching for the 21st century students. So I want to show the diagram given below which tells us the difference between traditional and alternative way of teaching.
Some interesting things I have read in my Google readers is about California state proposition 8 ruling. I was listening to CNN news on August 4 2010 when I heard a breaking news that us chief district court judge overturned the proposition 8 ruling which banned the gay marriage. I went to Google reader to find what California proposition 8 . By defining the marriage as between a man and woman the proposition overturned the California Supreme Court’s earlier ruling that same sex marriage is legal and that same –sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. The proposition 8 came in effect immediately after the election. However the proposition did not change the same-sex marriages performed before November 5 2008. The opponents of the proposition argued that the marriage is a fundamental right of the country and the California constitution denial of marriage to same sex couples is discriminating against the gay couples. After the elections numerous same sex couples filed lawsuits with California Supreme Court challenging the proposition’s validity. The ruling of the law was overturned by the chief of district court on august 4 2010 resulting in a huge victory for the same sex couples.
I love to read different materials like novels, magazines like scientific America and smithosean to know what’s going on around the world. Apart from that I watch NBC10 nightly news and CNN news to keep updating the present events and weekends I love to read international newspapers on internet to keep in touch with the country I was born in. particularly talking about reading in my teaching area I like to read educational leadership, how to improve students’ learning, what great teachers do differently, and ignite. The book what great teachers do differently has 14 things that matter most. It focus on the specific thing that great teachers do …. That others do not.
http://www.pageflakes.com/default.aspx?u=33648440 I want everyone to see my pageflake which i created using my accoun in pageflake. It is one of the amazing tool to use in the class room teaching. I have been using my wiki page to post assignments but now i am going to use pageflake for my teaching learning process. It is one best tools i have across where i can feed lot of rss, links, topics, assignments, home work and class work, math video games which are very helpful for my teaching learning process which will motivate my students to learn 21 st century skills. I can also use pageflakes for my professional development so that my staff can explore different tools for the teaching learning process.
http://docs.google.com I was new to google docs when i first started using it. While doing this course i created power point for my math lesson and one document about behaviour plans for the students and spread sheet for my students performance. I enjoyed while creating these three documents after doing little bit of practice, after doing this i am very cofident in using google docs. While i was working with google docs i saw other two visitors working on google docs and i shared the three documents with the two other teachers. It was an amazing experience for me to work collaboratively with other teachers on google docs.
YouTube is a video-sharing website which users can upload, share, comment and view videos. Three former PayPal employees created YouTube on February 2005. In 2006, You Tube, was bought by Google INC. for $1.65 billion. The company is in California, You tube provides content, including movie clips, TV clips, and music videos, as well as video blogging. You Tube is like a social networking website, people can upload videos and comment on them. Last may before my classes took final exam I used some video from teacher tube, discovery, youtube to reteach important topics that will motivate some and recognize the concept when we use technology .you tube is not only a media for entertainment it can also be used as a great multi media resource for spreading knowledge and as a teaching aid tool. i used you tube during the time when the student’s attention in class room is really bad like the time just before the christmas vacation or after week end during those times i use you tube to make my class more enjoyable and interesting. what i do is i show the lessons i recorded by using active studio and smart board and i show the students the uploaded video from youtube. after that i will give students worksheet based on the video they watched.
In my past experience with podcasting I used podcast for my personal task like fast reading, language testing. Last year when my school was offering voice thread class I have learned how to record my voice and what lesson I am teaching using my own account in voice thread and aso I can post my assignments and my lesson to collaborate with other teachers. By using voice thread podcasting in my class my students and myself are presented about mathematician projects and we enjoyed. After seeing students were learning about so many mathematicians by just clicking the key in the voice thread that gave me the idea for me to use project based teaching when my students went to six flags I have given the survey what are the things need to be observed and learned and experience they can demonstrate the experience in the class. With the help of their information I have created a flip chart in my active studio only the thing was missing was the audio for some of the clippings but now I have got good experience with podcasting from web2.0 learning class helped me to recreate my project based flip cast with my audio voice.
